Maricris Nonato

Seasoned Ruby on Rails Enthusiast

I AM FROM Manila, PH

I CREATE Exciting RoR applications

I LIKE cats! and clean code

While time has seasoned my technical experience, I claim to be no expert. I believe that continuous studying and learning gives one the opportunity to be better in their craft. This is what differentiates me from the rest--my passion. I'm always trying to be better at what I do and love. There's no stopping me from learning anything if I wanted it, or if that is what's needed. Above all, I do what is best according to what the situation calls.

I'm highly opinionated and I always put myself in the context of whatever I am doing or asked to do so, may it be in meetings or simple discussions. So, expect a colorful, sometimes intriguing conversation with me.

At the moment, I'm working on two pro-bono projects. Stay tuned!

Web Development

For over 15 years now, I have followed trends in web development, learned different languages and technologies to support the needs and requirements of different clients. Full-stack development is one of my strengths--I can code from front-end to back-end scripting, as long as designs are given to me. Server management is also a skill that I have learned over time.

I'm passionate about following certain codes and practices that promote speed & ease in web development while developing efficient applications.

Project Management

I've been managing people as early as 2004. I have handled a team ranging from 3 up to 21. In DOST-ASTI, I was lead of the development team, managing the transition of product development from plain (no framework) PHP to Symfony.

At Devex, I have handled different groups working on different projects, and met project deadlines.

I have worked in various sectors such as Education, Research & Development, IPTV, International Development, Consumer services, etc. Throughout the years and projects I've handled and completed, I have learned to simplify communication between team members and technical people with business-minded people.

Teaching / Mentorship / Training / Talks

I was privileged to have a skill of transforming technical terms into simple terms for easier understanding. I've taught high school students math, mentored some developers to learn about agile iteration, version control and Ruby on Rails. For some of my projects as well, I was able to travel the country to render trainings. During my free time, I also give talks on meetups.

Marichris is a refreshing change from coders that can't communicate and never can quite deliver what you need. Her work ethic is superior, only to be rivaled by her expert knowledge and execution within the Ruby language. I'd recommend her to you, but if I have anything to do with it, you wont ever have the chance to hire her because I'll have her busy. :)

Christine Almuete

Christine Almuete Managing Owner at CA Virtual Services

I contracted with Maricris to develop and implement a website for our client in the media industry. I am extremely happy with Maricris' ability to take rough ideas, and to turn them into an accurate, professional, attractive and intuitive, user-friendly website that is made with ruby on rails. Maricris effectively blends excellent technical skills with good listening, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills. She made this project painless, efficient, fun, and ultimately better than I imagined the outcome.

Maricris is gracious and professional in incorporating my afterthoughts and minor changes once the project was underway. Maricris is forward-thinking in her design approach, and helped us to think beyond the initial imaginings. She kept the larger vision in mind, while effectively attending to accuracy and clarity in the details. Maricris' dedication to the project ensures that it will be completed and implemented on budget and ahead of schedule.

We will surely take on some more of our future projects to a rock star ruby on rails developer such as Maricris!!
